Congregation Beth Judea's GAN SHABBAT is a special Shabbat program run by the Focus on Families Committee for children and their families. Beth Judea's family Shabbat program will meet every Shabbat morning in the Beit Midrash on the Religious School level.
This service, specially designed for children ages nine and under, along with their families, will begin at 10:30 AM Saturday mornings and will conclude around 11:30 AM. After Gan Shabbat, all participants will be encouraged to join the main service and the community Kiddush.
Gan literally means 'garden.' When used in relation to education, this Hebrew word often refers to younger children. Gan Shabbat is coordinated by Beth Judea lay leader Bruce Darin, and the services will be led by the Beth Judea clergy and educators. Gan Shabbat is a special opportunity to bring together toddlers, kids and their parents for a Shabbat morning service in a family-friendly setting.
Gan Shabbat is a participatory service filled with singing, stories and learning. Two unique prayer books will be utilized for each service, one being the Beth Judea Tot Siddur, which is geared toward our younger community members, while the other, Siddur Shema Yisrael, is designed for children who can read. Beth Judea hopes to create an environment where children and parents will learn about prayer and how to pray together.
Beth Judea is located on IL Route 83 and Hilltop Road, Long Grove. If you have any questions, please contact Bruce Darin at the synagogue office 847/634-0777. Mindy Gold is the Chairperson of the Focus on Families Committee. For information about their many activities, please leave a message for her at the synagogue office.
