The next INTERPRETIVE SHABBAT SERVICE will be
on Shabbat, January 23, 2010.

The Interpretive Shabbat Minyan will not be meeting this Shabbat, January 17. We will be getting together on January 23rd. The minyan will be led by Kim Granoff and Natalie Gurin. I look forward to seeing you all again on January 30, 2010.

     On December 20, 2009, Life Source will be at Beth Judea collecting blood. We have chosen this time because of the urgent need for blood during the holidays.

     I know it is inconvenient to come on a holiday but unfortunately the need for donations to save lives is ever greater.

Dec. 18 - Hebrew Lit. Class Graduation

The members of this year's Hebrew Literacy Class will help lead the Friday Night Services on December 18th.

The students will have completed the 12 week long c lass sponsored by the Men's Club. Helping them will be the Men's Club Choir, the clergy and guitarist Arielle Solomon.

Please join us to make this a memorable completion of their studies.

Dec. 19 - FJMC Sefer Haftorah Scroll

At services on Saturday morning December 19th, Congregation Beth Judea will be hosting the FJMC's Sefer Haftorah scroll.

The scroll has the outward appearance of a Torah scroll and contains all the Haftorot chanted during the year. It was written by one of the finest scribal groups in Israel.

The differences between the Sefer Haftorah and a Torah are readily apparent, however, as soon as one oepns the scroll.

The Haftorah scroll, unlike the Torah, has the vowels and the trop cantillation, which facilitate teh chanting of it. Also, the Haftorah scroll lists the various sponsorships of the individual Haftarot.

The FJMC scroll travels from Men's Club to Men's Club to be used in congregations all across North America.

The scroll will be on display after services.
